Subject: Unlawful Use of Drugs and Alcohol on Campus
POLICY
The following policy was adopted to comply with the federal Drug-Free
Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989.

It is the policy of Arkansas State University to maintain an educational
and working environment which is free from the influence of unlawful drugs.
Therefore, the unlawful manufacture, possession, use, dispensing or distribution
of drugs and alcohol by students and employees of the university on any
property owned or maintained by the university or as a part of university
activity is strictly prohibited.

Individuals who violate this policy will be subject to a number of sanctions
imposed both by the university and by the state and federal criminal justice
systems.

Possession of any alcoholic beverages in residence halls, educational
or recreational facilities is prohibited.

In addition to sanctions and/or disciplinary action which may be taken
by the university, the university may refer violations to the appropriate
legal authorities for criminal prosecution.
The administrative staff shall biennially:

Review the alcohol and drug abuse prevention program to determine its effectiveness
and implement needed changes.

Review university disciplinary sanctions to ensure they are consistently
enforced.
