Subject:  Part Time Faculty - Fringe Benefits

POLICY

Part-time faculty are eligible for fringe benefits, including life/health insurance, retirement contributions, etc., if the total workload is determined to be 50 percent or more of a normal FTE load.

DEFINITION

Full-time Load

Generally, a full-time load includes 12 semester credit hours of instruction, student advisement, regular office hours, committee assignments, research, writing, service, and other responsibilities as may be assigned by the chair or the dean.

In some instances, the chair or the dean may approve an arrangement of responsibilities that results in more or fewer semester credit hours of instruction with a corresponding decrease or increase in other professional activities.

Halftime Load

The workload for part-time faculty will be considered to be 50 percent of a normal FTE load when it includes 50 percent of the normal teaching load plus additional professional activities--student advisement, regular office hours, committee assignments, research, writing, service, or when it includes 83.3 percent of the full-time teaching load with expectation of no additional professional activities.
